Northern Nevada Medical Center recently was added as a preferred provider for the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield network, giving more than 30,000 additional area residents access to NNMC's services.

"We're excited about being able to serve Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield members," said Brandt C. Wright, hospital CEO. "We've heard from many members and physicians who've wanted another hospital choice, and now they have it."

The addition of Northern Nevada to the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield network marks the second major contract acquisition in 2006 for the Sparks hospital. In May, NNMC was included on the state of Nevada Public Employees' Benefits Program PPO plan.

In recent months, Northern Nevada Medical Center has focused on creating greater access to hospital services for the citizens of Washoe County and surrounding areas. It simply makes sense that physicians and patients alike would prefer to have a choice in hospitals, and we are pleased to be able to provide high quality services in a convenient location that will suit the needs of many people on the Anthem plans.

"With our practice located in Sparks, it's great to have a Blue Cross and Blue Shield hospital in Sparks for our patients' convenience," said Jason McKenzie, DO, family practitioner with Family Medicine Associates. "More choices, easier access … it's always good to give patients more options."

Northern Nevada's quality has been recognized with Best Practice rankings in The Gallup Organization's physician satisfaction survey in emergency services, nursing, radiology, admissions and cleanliness and in Gallup's patient satisfaction surveys in emergency services and outpatient testing and treatment. The hospital has earned the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization's Gold Seal of Approval by demonstrating compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety.
