Get Back in Action with Sports Medicine
Treatment Can Reduce Pain and Restore Mobility
Do your joints, tendons or muscles ache due to overuse or injury? Sports medicine physician Luis Palacio, MD, is dedicated to helping patients resolve their musculoskeletal problems and getting them back to an active lifestyle.
Treating the Whole Person
Dr. Palacio's sports medicine fellowship training and experience working with high school, collegiate, professional and Olympic-level athletes equips him to treat knee, shoulder, ankle and wrist injuries. By combining this expertise with his training in family medicine, Dr. Palacio can treat other issues that often affect athletes, including:- Exercise-induced asthma
- Concussions
- Stress fractures
- Overuse injuries
"Patients often want to know if their problem is serious enough to stop performing their routine activities," Dr. Palacio says. "The goal is to return patients to high performance levels in a safe and timely fashion."
Not Just for Athletes
Athletes are not the only ones who may need treatment for musculoskeletal concerns -- anyone can have pain due to injuries or overuse requiring treatment. "Older individuals are particularly prone to knee, hip and shoulder problems that require sports-medicine-style care," Dr. Palacio says.Almost 90 percent of all musculoskeletal injuries do not require surgery. Dr. Palacio specializes in nonoperative management of musculoskeletal problems for all age groups. His training also allows him to identify patients who need surgery, so he can refer them to the most appropriate surgeon for the job.
Dr. Palacio is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine.
